Her head was spinning with frustration and defeat. Again, Oriel managed to nearly murder Damsel in a quick training session. 'Will I NEVER be good enough?' she thought as she flung a stone with a kick as far as she could. She realized she was a tracker, not meant for strength, but still she wanted to be able to defend herself in case something tragic happened, like to her parents. They didn't give their lives so a weakling could live.
"Hmph..." She groaned as she sat in a nest of tall grass. A few insects flew from their hideouts as she popped down, glaring and snapping her fangs as they fled. As she lay in the sunlight, Damsel let her mind wander. She thought back to when she first approached the new lioness. "Oh, how far you've come..." Damsel whispered to herself. She used to be nervous, but upon first seeing Oriel, she new she had to come out of her shell. She got Oriel to train with her, and she's become a completely different lion since then.
Suddenly, she let out a soft giggle. Realizing how childish she'd been just moments ago, the coal-colored girl stood and made her way to find Oriel. The least she could do is thank her... After all, Damsel just sort of ran off after being bested earlier.

Oriel set grooming her fur, her mind filled with a lot of littler thoughts, and they were about to hit a crescendo when she heard paw steps approaching. The former war lioness pulled her head up from under her back leg and looked up to see an approaching Damsel. Ori set off a small smile to her friend, and waved her shipped tail blade in welcome. "Hello there Damsel, " she said gently, blinking her eyes. Coming into the pride, Oriel had been grateful for Damsel. The Tracker had put aside the thoughts about Ori's grisly, haggard appearance and helped her back onto her paws. Others had kept their distance, put off by her ugly scar, chipped blade, and scruffy, unclean fur.
Damsel had been the one to first give her a chance, and for that, Oriel would be forever grateful.
Ori rose to her paws and dipped her head to Damsel, "What can I do for you, dear?"
