Jacques waited for hours for the rest of his patrol, occasionally padding along the boarder and placing scent markers. He was growing steadily bored. Eventually, though, they did show. It consisted of Ecko, Kirito, Artemis and Irik. He gave them all the same explanation he gave the previous patrol, making sure to tell them that he hadn't seen anything out of place while waiting. It wasn't long before the patrol was headed off.
- -- --- -- -
Night drew in as the patrol padded back into the caverns. Jacques stifled a yawn, instead seeking out one of the secondary leaders to ask to be placed on another patrol directly. He had a good bit to work off, despite being tired. His green eyes flickered, searching the darkness.

Aurora since the incident had made her way back into her den and flicked off her armor. She padded to the back of the cave before letting loose the remainder of her anger. With stroke after stroke she dug her claws into the mountain, scratching every surface within reach. The more she did it however, the more angry she became. Ice and snow flurrying around her and transforming the cavern into an snow and ice covered mess. Aurora roared, flinging icicles in every direction before collapsing onto the ground. Her body faced the back wall of the cave, her eyes filling with tears and leaving Aurora with no explanation as to why. She took a deep breath, causing 3 ice walls to encase her...before she finally broke down into an uncontrollable sobbing.

In the stillness of the night, the brown male could hear her erupting. His first instinct was to run toward her, but he listened to his mind instead. He shook his head and kept going, until everything fell into an eerie silence. Worry began to prick at his mind. Jacques could stand it no longer. He pressed forward, exiting the chambers. He'd find something to keep his mind at bay in the darkness.
Meanwhile, Kaida had also heard the commotion. She padded nearer the noise, finding Aurora in a mental turmoil. She watched as the white lioness unleashed her anger on to her den, ducking to dodge the icicles that were flung outward. Only once the younger lioness had calmed down did she approach. "Aurora?" she murmured out softly into the frozen den, poking her ogre-like head into the cave.

Aurora quickly stifled her cries as she heard a voice from the mouth of the cave. Her eyes peeled open through the collection of tears and puffy eyes. She peered over her should just far enough to see who it was at the entrance...hoping it was not Jacques. To her relief it was only Kaida. Aurora slowly forced the ice chamber around her to recede before clambering to her feet. "Yea, what is it Kaida? I'm not in the mood." The female mumbled.

Carefully, the greenish lioness entered the cave, placing her paws strategically as to not slip on the ice. "I can see that. What's on your mind?" she asked, finally sitting down near her. Kaida's limp, lifeless tail lay stretched out behind her, and though she could not feel it, she knew it was. It always was. She blinked her wise, dark-jade eyes at the younger lioness, curious as to what she would say.

Aurora huffed indignantly. Her statement was not an invitation for further questions, however the female did not outwardly detest. She began pacing back and forth, her very footsteps cracking the ice beneath her. "It's Jacques." She finally said, unsure for a moment on how to continue. "He. He-Ugh!" Her voice rose angrily again before she had to take a moment to regain herself. "We were just having a normal day. He brought me a snack from beyond the boarders and we goofed around a little. That's just who we are. Or so i thought. Then suddenly he starts up into a lunatics rave. You should have heard him! Over and over talking about love and.....I'm not crazy am I? I mean we are in a bloody war. No one has time for things like love here. Certainly not me. It's a distraction. An unneeded commitment."

Kaida listened to her tale with patient and understanding ears. With a heavy breath, she nodded slowly. "I understand your point, Aurora. I understand it well, and to a point you are correct. This is a war, and love can be a distraction." she began, "It can also be what drives a lion to do what he must. But tell me, why is it an unneeded commitment to you? There is no commitment unnecessary or unrewarding. At least, there hasn't been in my three hundred and twenty-five years." It was at this point, she shifted her hind quarters, her tail shifting with the movement. Her commitment to protecting Aeon was not without repercussions, but it had it's rewards as well. She was able to train the next generation and live to tell his tales. Though they were small, she could have died as well and the pride could have had another body to bury that day.

Aurora finally sat down, her eyes seething with hate and distrust at the very idea of her questions. "Because....I do not need anyone but myself. I am a lone fighter...always have been since I left the unknown lands. I am the only one I can trust with my life. I know what I am capable of...I cannot say the same for Jacques." She said finally. "We may be good friends..but war is another monster and I wont let myself get hurt simply for a fantasy of love." The female finished, eyeing the older lioness...waiting to hear her response.

Kaida listened with sympathetic ears. She understood what the white lioness was saying. "You are correct about that, Aurora, to a point. she told her calmly, "It is true that we know our own strengths and weaknesses and limits, but do you truly believe that you will be hurt with someone who loves you- and someone you love in return? The oger-like lioness paused there, allowing her words to sink a little before continuing. "There is less pain having loved and lost than to have never loved at all, my dear." It was with that last sentence that Kaida left. Rising to her paws, she padded out of the den, tail dragging in the dust.

Aurora just moaned, finally collapsing back onto the ground, her paws closing over her eyes as she breathed heavily in discontent. What was wrong with her? She was being torn apart from the inside. Everything about this felt wrong, and she had no idea what to think. Even Kaida's wise words were of no help easing the agony of her heart and head battling.

In the bless-ed darkness the caramel furred male did indeed find what he sought. Along the boarder to the darkness of the unknown, lay in wait a small ambush. Jacques was outnumbered three to one, but he wasn't giving in. The fur along his spine was raised in defense against the shadowy attackers, his tail making long lashes from side to side dangerously. He knew if he chose to fight, he would surely be killed. A thought came to mind, to use a technique he often did in battle to ensure the protection and victory of the warriors he fought along side. With a mighty roar, all the figures suddenly appeared disoriented. This gave Jacques just enough time to flee, and to warn the warriors.

Aurora remained where she lay, thinking about all that Jacques had said. Love. Love....what a silly thing. Nobody like me knows how to love...no one like me knows how to experience or even tell if what I feel is truly love. Her mind swirling endlessly in thought, that was until she heard something.
Her slender frame shot up, and made way to the entrance of the cave...where just off in the distance she spotted a figure running quickly in this direction....with 3 others right on their tail..

"Get the warriors!" he roared out before taking a sharp turn and leading the shadowy outlanders away from the caves. He gave another burst of psychic energy to confuse them once again before running. This hadn't been at all what he'd meant when he wanted to clear his mind. "Alright, uglies, this way!" he roared, getting their attention once more. His green eyes stretched wide when their red ones met his face. He knew he was in for it, and it could cost him his life. 'Please.. let back up arrive soon..!' He turned running once again.

Aurora couldn't hear what the figure was shouting...only a roar or two as the chase continued along the boarder. The female, without her armor went barreling out of the cave and down the mountainside. Her muscles pushing her at record speeds across the pride grasslands towards the fight.
Her eyes narrowed trying to make out a face, when finally she recognized him as Jacques. "Keep them busy!" She shouted out to him, "Draw them over to me!" Aurora demanded, slowing her pace and coming to an abrupt halt.

Jacques didn't argue with her. She was skilled in battle and skilled with her element, more so than himself. He turned sharply, heading toward her. He cast his abilities, briefly, into the future, making out that the shadows would follow him to her. A fight was sure to break out. "Get ready!" he howled, putting on a burst of speed to kick up rocks into their faces.
