It was morning and air was cool, a light breeze blew gently across the rocky terrain. The new civil war had taken its toll on the LoC home world resulting in many reserves and retired warriors having to come out of retirement and go back into battle. However, there remained one lone male warrior, who had not yet returned to the front lines. Hodurgan, the gladiator lion, strode silently on a dusty path. The large black lion was covered in scars from battles long past and his ears were alert with caution. To the casual observer, one would wonder why such an experienced warrior was not one of the first picked to return to war. In Hodurgan's case, the reason was due to his rank as a cub trainer. Hodurgan and several other Warriors were chosen to stay back and train new troops. While was happy to oblige, the blue spotted warrior still yearned to be back in the heat of battle. The male growled and, out of irritation, fired a dozen or so shards of jagged Ice from his tail.
(Sorry it's kinda rough. I'm sleep)

Tis fine. c: _________________________________________________________________________________________
"Careful, Hodurgan." The voice was clearly female. It was gentle and light, holding no anger toward the dangerous outburst. The lioness came from behind a boulder where she had taken cover from the shards of ice. There were a few ice bursts on the grey stone from where the shards had impacted and shattered against it. Muscles rippled under her dull green fur, the golden stripes along her shoulder shimmering in the light. Her tail hung limply behind, dragging against the pebbles and dust. Her tail guard could be heard against the stone as well, telling of her permanent injury. "You might hurt a rock with outbursts like that." Kaida said, clearly attempting something humorous. Her jade-colored eyes shone with laughter and life, despite everything. The area was actually rather vacant of life forms, other than Hodurgan and herself at the moment, so there really was no worry in harming another lion. The oger-faced lioness gave him a toothy smile as she trotted up to him.

At the sound of the sudden voice, Hodurgan stiffened, bracing for attack. His claws began to ice over and his tail began to produce a subtle most. Once he looked up he soon realized he was in no danger. As he looked over the horned lioness before him, the gladiator recognized her as a fellow cub trainer. "My appologies, Kaida," he said politely as he forced his irritation to subside in the presence of a female and coworker. Hodurgan knew o Kaida through talk among his pupils, though the two fanged lions were never formally introduced. The brute met his cold eyes with hers and they momentarily flashed with embarrassment. "I should have controlled myself and made sure no one was in any danger of my attack." He dipped his head apologetically then gave a faint smile at her tease so as not to be rude.

Kaida hadn't meant to startle him. Being a warrior first had always made her quiet on feet, which was something she couldn't train out of herself. The only thing that ever gave her away was the dragging of her tail along the ground behind her. "No one normally comes out this way, and as warriors we attack first and ask questions later. It's in our blood." she chuffed, almost sounding as though it were simply a fact of life. "How goes training?"

Hodurgan let the ice shard on his tail melt away as he regained his composure. "Training has been good. Many of my students are reaching their adult forms now with the war going on." he answered as he looked at his paws. Adult forms meant they were physically ready for battle, but he himself knew that many of his pupils are likely not to return from their first battles now. The dark colored male returned his gaze to the lioness before him. "How're your training classes going?" he asked his fur finally laying flat.

Maybe we could see how well things could go between these two a possible mate-candidates?? __________________________________________________________________________
"Well enough. My cubs are young and lack proper control over their elements at the moment, but they will get the hang of it." She dipped her head before raising up and smiling at him, "It is always bitter sweet to see a cub you've practically raised grow up, and the feeling of dread of sending them off to war.." Kaida had been a cub trainer a decade longer he had, and in the fifty or so years she had been a cub trainer, she had seen off many cubs into battle. There were those she took on late in their training, while she was still training others. Some had just recently begun their training, as well, and all were mentally prepared for the evils of war. She made sure of that. "I do hope the young ones never have to experience battling another of their kind. It is, in a way, sickening." she murmured, looking down at her paws before suddenly looking up and giving him an embarrassed expression, "Uh, no offense, Hodurgan!" She knew of his past and that he used to battle other lions, but that was a choice made by all parties- there was no choice in war.

Sure thing!--
"I'm sure the cubs in your care will be well prepared for the day they go to battle," He replied, unlike Kaida, the cubs Hodurgan trained were all older and near achieving their adult stage. He was assigned to work with older cubs due to his tendency to be strict and challenging, unlike other trainers like Kaida. Though this doesnt mean he doesnt care about his apprentices. Hodurgan's whiskers twitched at her second comment, "I take no offense." he said giving her a smile to reassure her, then lowered his head slightly, "It was my choice..." he muttered before raising his head, "But i agree, I hope they never have to face one another in this civil war."

Kaida nodded in agreement before casting her gaze skyward. "The cosmos look so brilliant tonight. Lovely, isn't it?" she murmured, coming to a stop. She always found beauty in the simplest of things, though the sky above them and existing around them was far from simple. "I love looking at the stars. They always make me feel like I still have importance, even though I am no longer able to actively participate in the war." she told him, never taking her eyes off of the heavens.

Hodurgan raised his head as well, following her gaze to the stars above. "Indeed it is..." he said simply. Though he acted like he didnt care all that much, deep down the dark male knew all lions had a profound love for the stars, even himself. "I remember the days when i got to travel among them. How i miss those days." He lowered his icy stare back to Kaida. It was true, Hodurgan did miss traveling off planet, but those journeys were all done in order for him to cover the stars with blood and carnage. He, however, showed no sign of his guilt for taking so many live, nor did he show his urge to return to the battle field. Instead, the ex-gladiator stood in silence.

Kaida smiled. "Yes.. So do I." she murmured. Her paw twitched, startling her visibly. She attempted to stifle a small laugh at herself, but couldn't much help it. A short, light laugh escaped her, her jade eyes twinkling like the stars above.

Hodurgan flicked his ear as he watched Kaida. He averted his gaze, feeling he was being rude, but quickly looked back at her after hearing her laugh. "What's so funny?" he asked a little surprised at her sudden amusement in something. The big brute tilted his head a little in interest. The starlight revealed the many scars that Hodur bore, attained after years of battle, but despite his dark history Hodurgan wanted to know why this fellow cub-trainer was laughing after their rather serious conversation about their injuries.
